Steam cleaner buying guide

Steam cleaners lift grease and grime with hot water vapour instead of chemicals, which makes them popular for tiled floors, grout, kitchens and bathrooms. Always check that your floor type is sealed and safe for steam before you start.

Pad design and heating time are what you notice every day. Washable, reusable pads save money, and a fast heat-up means you will actually reach for the machine instead of a bucket.

Empty the tank after use and use demineralised or filtered water if your tap water leaves white residue. That keeps the heating element working properly for years.

Quick checklist before you buy:

• Safe for your floor type
• Heat-up time and steam settings
• Reusable, washable pads
• Cord length and tank size

Care and maintenance for the Shark Steam and Scrub S8002

Let the machine cool before emptying the tank, wash the pads after every use and store the mop with the head lifted. If your tap water leaves white marks, switch to filtered water. Test a small hidden area on delicate floors before the first full clean.

Things to consider

• Not suitable for unsealed wood, laminate or delicate surfaces
• Heat-up time is short but not instant
• Needs a power outlet within cord reach
• Check the pad and accessory pack included in the box
